Why do we target the Times?

As the “paper of record” in the United States, the New York Times enjoys a special discursive power and unique influence on U.S. foreign policy. It also sets journalistic norms and standards for the American news media industry. This makes it a highly strategic target, one that is particularly sensitive and susceptible to attacks on its prestige. By revealing its long record of anti-Palestinian racism, and by holding its editors to account for covering up Israel’s war crimes in Gaza, we can collectively impair the paper’s power to revise history in real time.

Our campaign is obviously not the first to point out the Times’ role in manufacturing consent and maintaining the fatal U.S.–Israeli alliance. Investigative outlets and organizations including The Electronic Intifada, Mondoweiss, The Intercept, Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting (FAIR), have attended to the Times’ failures for decades, as have many Palestinian and Arab writers, scholars, and media critics. Since October 7, 2023, such critiques have accrued new urgency. Evidence continues to mount that when it comes to Palestine, the Times abandons even the pretense of commitment to journalistic integrity. Read more below.
